Groundbreaking for cathode active materials production plant in Schwarzheide, Germany

BASF has broken ground for its new cathode active materials production plant in Schwarzheide, Germany. In an online event, the company celebrated this milestone together with customers, politicians and partners. The new plant is part of BASF’s multi-step investment plan in the European battery materials market and will use precursors from the company’s previously announced plant in Harjavalta, Finland. Construction has already started in August in Schwarzheide and the plant is scheduled for a 2022 start-up.

BASF wins “Best Catalyst Technology” for Fourtune™ at the 2020 HP Awards

BASF was awarded “Best Catalyst Technology” at the 2020 Hydrocarbon Processing (HP) Awards for its Fourtune™ FCC catalyst. Fourtune is the latest product based on BASF’s Multiple Framework Topology (MFT) technology. It has been optimized to deliver superior butylene over propylene selectivity while maintaining catalyst activity and performance. The technology provides an answer to the increased demand for octane since today’s tighter sulfur regulations often require post treatment on the gasoline stream, which can negatively impact the octane pool.

BASF announces series of new product innovations in its selective hydrogenation catalysts portfolio

A new series of commercially proven alumina catalysts is now available with new performance features that can benefit selective hydrogenation applications such as first stage PYGAS or selective hydrogenation of dienes in C4 olefin streams. This new series of Pd on spherically shaped E15x catalysts replaces the E14x series of Pd alumina catalysts which have been used commercially for over thirty years in selective hydrogenation applications.

BASF updates the Abbreviated Component Maintenance Manuals for its Deoxo™ ozone and ozone/VOC converter portfolios

BASF announced today that it has updated its Abbreviated Component Maintenance Manuals (ACMMs) for the Deoxo™ ozone converters and ozone/VOC converters portfolio, with the release of revised ACMMs for the Airbus A320 airplane platform and the Airbus A330/A340 airplane platform. The updated ACMMs redefine the test procedures and service methods for maintaining the converters, to ensure continued industry-leading performance of its ozone converters. Proper testing includes functional checks of both ozone conversion efficiency and pressure drop for air transiting through the converter. BASF encourages airline operators to check with their current MRO (Maintenance Repair and Overhaul) service provider to ensure compliance with the updated ACMMs.

Ludwigshafen, Germany and Johannesburg, South Africa – BASF announced today that it has successfully developed and tested an innovative Tri-Metal Catalyst technology that enables partial substitution of high-priced palladium with lower-priced platinum in light-duty gasoline vehicles without compromising emissions standards. Adoption of the Tri-Metal Catalyst can reduce catalytic converter costs for automakers and partially rebalance market demand for PGMs, thereby enhancing PGM market sustainability.

BASF is announcing a new battery materials production site in Schwarzheide, Germany, as part of its multi-step investment plan to support the European electric vehicle (EV) value chain. This state-of-the art plant will produce cathode active materials (CAM) with an initial capacity enabling the supply of around 400,000 full electric vehicles per year with BASF battery materials. December 16, 2019 - Linde’s DRYREF™ syngas process in combination with BASF’s SYNSPIRE™ catalyst enable steam reforming of methane in dryer conditions and the use of CO2 as feedstock, allowing for energy savings and improved CO2 footprint. For this new technology, BASF and Linde Engineering have now received the ICIS Award 2019 for Best Process Innovation. BASF launches Durasorb™ HRU for removal of BTX and heavy hydrocarbons

BASF launches Durasorb HRU as an addition to the Durasorb portfolio for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) pre-treatment that is specifically designed for the removal of BTX and heavy hydrocarbons. It provides a 30 percent increase in capacity for BTX components, allowing for the effective removal of BTX to less than 1ppm without compromising unit efficiency.

Eramet, BASF and SUEZ partner to develop an innovative closed-loop process for the recycling of lithium-ion batteries, responding to the strong growth of the market in the coming years

Ludwigshafen, Germany; Paris, France – The “Recycling Li-ion batteries for electric Vehicle” (ReLieVe) project, founded by Eramet, BASF and SUEZ, will receive a substantial funding of €4.7 million by EIT Raw Materials, a consortium initiated and funded by the European Union, and the three members. The objective is to develop an innovative closed-loop process to recycle lithium-ion batteries from electric vehicles and to enable the production of new lithium-ion batteries in Europe.
