BASF’s portfolio of advanced HED™ NCA cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries are LNO-based (Lithium Nickel Oxide) materials in which Nickel is partly replaced with Cobalt and Aluminum, giving high energy capacity and energy density as well as improved chemical stability to become a suitable candidate for batteries in automotive drive-trains.

BASF and Toda Kogyo have formed a cathode active materials joint venture (JV) in Japan, named BASF TODA Battery Materials LLC (BTBM) since Feb 2015, focusing on R&D, Production, Sales & Marketing of NCA as well as NCM in Japan.
