VOCat RCO catalysts are used in regenerative catalytic oxidation (RCO) units to destroy volatile organic compounds (VOC) and carbon monoxide (CO).

RCO units are used by a variety of process industries to abate emissions and comply with environmental standards. They use catalysts in combination with heat to destroy pollutants, making them highly efficient because they can operate at much lower temperatures than regenerative thermal oxidation units, which use heat alone. An RCO unit featuring a VOCat RCO catalyst destroys up to 99 percent of emissions, depending on the application. The catalysts are unique in that they are designed to withstand a wide range of temperatures that may be experienced in the RCO unit.

Many industrial processes can change over time. VOCat RCO catalysts are highly resistant to poisoning and abrasion, which translates into long service life and minimum maintenance.

BASF Catalysts’ family of VOCat RCO catalysts includes:

  • RCO 5000, which has excellent activity to oxidize CO and many unsaturated VOCs at 650°F+. This catalyst is especially appropriate for forest product applications where pinenes are the primary VOCs.
  • RCO 6000, which has improved activity for oxygenated VOCs (i.e., MEK, acetates) while maintaining excellent activity for CO and unsaturated VOCs.
  • RCO 7000 (base metal), which is very active for small oxygenated VOCs.
  • RCO 300S, which is a highly active catalyst on a ceramic honeycomb to destroy a wide range of VOC.
