全球布局

BASF is a strong player in the global battery materials market and operates production plants and pilot plants in all major regions.

BASF has a majority controlled joint venture with TODA in both Japan and North America starting in 2015. BASF TODA Battery Materials LLC (BTBM), has successfully expanded capacity at its site in Onoda, Japan in 2017. With this expansion, it now has the world-leading calcination capacity for highenergy-density cathode active materials.

In North America, BASF and TODA KOGYO have established BASF Toda America LLC (BTA) in March 2018. BTA produces and markets high energy NCM and NCA cathode materials from Elyria, Ohio, and Battle Creek, Michigan. BASF now offers a strategic supply position and produces innovative cathode materials in North America to meet the needs of key global customers.

In June 2017, BASF announced its intention to add production capabilities in Europe and the start of exclusive negotiations with Norilsk Nickel on raw materials supply cooperation for battery materials production in Europe.

In October 2018, BASF announced the location Harjavalta, Finland, for a new battery materials production plant for the European automotive market. This plant is the first part of a multi-step investment plan and follows initial battery materials production started in Harjavalta in 2018.

In February 2020, BASF announced to further invest in Europe and selected Schwarzheide, Germany as the location for its cathode active material plant. The investment is a part of its multi-step investment plan to support the European electric vehicle (EV) value chain and further strengthen global leadership position for battery materials for electric vehicles.
