BASF TODA Battery Materials LLC has been formed by BASF Japan (66% equity) and Toda Kogyo (34% equity) in Japan in 2015. It specializes in cathode active materials (CAM) for lithium-ion batteries, including nickel cobalt aluminum oxide (NCA) and nickel cobalt manganese (NCM).

The company provides state-of-the-art CAM, including NCA oxide and NCM oxide, for lithium-ion batteries.

Leveraging its extensive experience, the company contributes high-performing material for advanced lithium-ion batteries for consumer electronics, such as laptops, smartphones, and energy storage, and expands its technological know-how to the field of electric vehicle batteries. The products and solutions have been successfully adopted by leading electric automotive OEM platforms.

Headquartered in Sanyo-Onoda city, Yamaguchi Prefecture, BASF TODA Battery Materials has offices and production facilities in Tokyo, Onoda and Kita-Kyushu. It has approximately 130 employees, with a combined annual production capacity for cathode active materials and their precursors of approximately 35,000 metric tons.

Onoda Site

Located in Sanyo-Onoda city, Yamaguchi prefecture, the Onoda site was built for cathode material production in 2003. The production facilities were expanded in 2011, 2012 and 2017. The R&D center is also located here, where it develops cathode materials such as High-energy (HE) NCM.

Kita kyushu location

Kita-Kyushu Site

Kita-Kyushu site is located in Kitakyushu eco-town. The site started as an NCA production plant. In recent years, its capacity has been continuously increased.
