Durasorb® Dehy is an innovative technology that provides reliable dehydration service to LNG producers.

The combination bed is designed by experts to eliminate degradation from regeneration reflux conditions. Durasorb Dehy units have longer bed life, extending time between turnarounds, which reduces costs and lost production time.

Customized design combines BASF products into a single solution

Durasorb® Dehy is the combination of two BASF products into a single solution to capitalize on the benefits from each product:

  • Durasorb® HD (High Durability): water resistant adsorbent
  • Durasorb® HR (High Resistant): reflux resistant molecular sieve

Innovative technology in both the HD and HR layers provide benefits to the plant

  • Extended bedlife
  • Reduced coking
  • Elimination of hydrothermal damage

Durasorb® HD is 100% resistant to liquid water and maintains mechanical stability even in liquid water carryover conditions

Innovative Technology Solves the Regeneration Reflux Problem

Durasorb HD is resistant to liquid water and maintains mechanical stability, increasing water uptake capacity, resulting in reduced bed size or higher gas throughput. Increased bed lifetime results in higher utilization.

Durasorb HR is developed to withstand harsh conditions found in fast-cycling dehydraters often seen in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) applications. This innovative material produces significantly less fines after 600 cycle test.

Innovation in Materials Development for LNG Dehydration

This paper presents an innovative approach to the refluxing problem based on materials development. This innovation is supported by many years of successful and highly durable installations in cryogenic applications. The paper describes the first retrofit installation of this new development in dehydration of gas for LNG production. It will also discuss potential benefits for new installations such as reduced vessel size and operational security in addition to extended bed lifetimes which could be achieved for existing units.

Increased Dehydration Bed-Life Reduces Turnaround Costs and Eliminates Unplanned Shutdown: NGL and LNG Gas Plant Durasorb Case Studies

BASF first introduced Durasorb technology to the market to extend dehydrator unit life by reducing the effects of regeneration reflux on molecular sieve. The approach was to use a water stable adsorbent to protect the molecular sieve and to develop a molecular sieve that was more robust to a refluxing environment. The Africa LNG plant is an example of the successful implementation of this approach. Durasorb installations have, on average, doubled the lifetime previously achieved in the unit. Operators of Durasorb dehydration units around the world now have reliable operation and performance, leading to a reduction in operating costs and lost production.
