Did you know there can be 5x more air pollution inside your house than outside of it? Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) refers to the air quality within and around buildings and structures, especially as it relates to the health and comfort of building occupants. Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce risk of indoor health concerns. BASF offers the widest portfolio of adsorbent technologies for a broad spectrum of applications in industries such as refining, petrochemical, chemical, and gas processing. The BASF portfolio includes proprietary alumina, silica, alumino-silica gels and a broad line of base metal oxide guard bed materials, including the PuriStar family. At BASF, our Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) catalyst and additive offerings together with our expert technical services build the right solution to create value within any unit’s constraints. The increasing demand for energy and resources is what drives us to develop more sustainable solutions, while addressing the need for energy efficiency and conservation. We partner with those who share our commitment to a healthier, more natural and more affordable future for energy and resources. We are constantly improving the quality and reliability of our products, and strive for even greater efficiency and productivity. BASF Natural Gas experts have a diverse portfolio of products to custom design a solution and help you meet your Natural Gas treatment needs. BASF has been serving the natural gas treatment market for over 60 years. With more than 150 years of experience in metal sourcing, trading, and hedging, we’ve built tangible results for our industrial customers. With more than 100 years of experience in recycling materials, BASF’s end-to-end recycling program is known and trusted around the globe. As a leader in precious-metal thermocouples for many years, BASF recently applied its technological expertise to optical-based temperature measurement. BASF Sorbead® Air adsorbents are alumino silicate gels in the form of hard, spherical beads. They are essential in removing water from compressed air so that the efficiency of chemical processes is not compromised. Sorbead® Air is the most energy saving and environmentally friendly adsorbent available for the air compression industry. Innovative, step-change technology with dual-purpose performance: removal of heavy hydrocarbons and water to cryogenic specifications in a single unit. BASF and Linde win ICIS Award for Best Process Innovation

  • BASF and Linde have collaborated to push the boundaries of chemistry to propose a groundbreaking new catalyst and steam-reforming process
  • Innovation award is given to BASF’s SYNSPIRE™ catalyst in combination with Linde’s DRYREF™ syngas process
  • New process successfully combines high-performance technologies offering a cost-effective CO2 footprint improvement with global impact

December 16, 2019 - Linde’s DRYREF™ syngas process in combination with BASF’s SYNSPIRE™ catalyst enable steam reforming of methane in dryer conditions and the use of CO2 as feedstock, allowing for energy savings and improved CO2 footprint. For this new technology, BASF and Linde Engineering have now received the ICIS Award 2019 for Best Process Innovation. ICIS (Independent Commodity Information Service) is the world’s largest petrochemical market information provider and each year an expert jury selects the winners of the prestigious Innovation Awards.

ICIS Chemical Business Deputy Editor, Will Beacham, who chaired the award judging panel says: "Finding the right balance between profitability, energy efficiency and cutting CO2 emissions is a challenging task in process development. Linde and BASF have collaborated to push the boundaries of chemistry to propose a ground-breaking new catalyst and steam-reforming process with higher efficiency, lower energy demand and a lower CO2 footprint. The judges were also impressed by the teamwork involved in a joint entry and were pleased to be able to give the award to a new process which could have a significant impact on the global chemical industry and CO2 emissions."

Detlef Ruff, Senior Vice President Process Catalysts at BASF, says: “This project is an excellent example of how our broad expertise in catalysis and process research combined with Linde’s deep know-how in process technology can drive radical innovation. The common achievement is the result of a long-term collaboration of both companies that required trust, openness, excellent technical skills, long-term vision and readiness to take some risks.”

Klaus Ohlig, Head of Research and Development of Linde Engineering, says: “We are very proud to receive this award as it honors Linde’s and BASF’s strong commitment to provide more sustainable solutions to its customers. With DRYREF™ and SYNSPIRE™, we provide a solution to customers that is environmentally and commercially attractive.”
