BASF grants nickel metal-hydride battery materials license to ARTS Energy

NERSAC, CHARENTE, FRANCE, and ISELIN, N.J., April 27, 2015 -- BASF and ARTS Energy announced that BASF has granted ARTS Energy, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of battery products, a license to use BASF’s nickel metal-hydride (NiMH) patents and technology in the manufacture and sale of batteries for energy storage applications.

BASF, through the OvonicTM battery materials business it acquired in 2012, is the inventor, developer and worldwide licensor of NiMH battery technology. Ovonic continues to conduct research on advanced NiMH anode and cathode materials to deliver improved performance for consumer, stationary and vehicle applications.

“We are very happy to welcome ARTS Energy into our global family of NiMH battery licensees,” said Ralf Meixner, Senior Vice President of BASF’s global Battery Materials business. “This agreement will begin a period of mutually rewarding cooperation between our companies.”

“ARTS Energy is a quality supplier of rechargeable battery products for professional applications, including NiMH battery products. Beyond our current line-up and technology, we are happy to begin cooperating with BASF to develop next-generation products with improved electrochemical specifications that will meet the ever-increasing market demand for high performance, long life, and reliable energy storage solutions,” said Patrice Le Reun, Chief Executive Officer of ARTS Energy.
