BASF technology used in first Chinese light duty diesel commercial vehicle to meet Euro 6 standard
- SAIC MAXUS V80 meets stringent Euro 6 regulations with BASF’s innovative diesel emissions catalysts
- BASF supports SAIC with local technology development in China, creating new market opportunities in Europe
Shanghai, China – March 16, 2016 – BASF is supplying advanced light duty diesel (LDD) catalysts to SAIC MAXUS Automotive Co., Ltd (SAIC MAXUS) for use in its 2018 model SAIC MAXUS V80 commercial vehicle aimed at the export market – the first LDD commercial vehicle developed in China that meets Euro 6 emissions standards.
To meet the strict Euro 6 regulations, BASF is providing SAIC MAXUS with an advanced EMPRO™ emissions catalyst system including the following components:
- Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC): remove hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and some particulate matter from diesel engine exhaust.
- Catalyzed Soot Filter (CSF): minimize the release of particulate material from diesel engine exhaust.
- Copper Chabazite Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Catalyst: converts nitrogen oxides into water and nitrogen using a urea-based solution.
- Ammonia Oxidation (AMX) Catalyst: removes ammonia that may be left from the conversion of urea into ammonia.
“BASF has strong development capabilities in China, and a long history of cooperation with SAIC MAXUS to help address current and emerging clean air regulations in China,” said Dr. Michael Baier, Vice President of Mobile Emissions Catalysts Asia Pacific, BASF. “We are proud to take our relationship to the next level, allowing SAIC MAXUS to expand its commercial vehicle export capabilities by providing a catalyst system that can now meet the more restrictive Euro 6 regulations.”
BASF continues to lead the way in the development and commercialization of advanced emissions catalysts for both gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles. BASF works closely with automotive manufacturing customers to develop leading-edge technologies that can meet their needs for high performance and cost effectiveness, helping OEMs comply with ever-tightening environmental regulations around the world.
